They Tried to Take Her School, but Couldn't Take Her Mission

When you've built something from the ground up, it's hard to imagine someone coming in and taking it from you...but, it happens.  Just ask Dr. Chakesha Scott, founder of Impact Charter School in Baker, Louisiana.

In Part II of our conversation, Dr. Scott opened up about what she calls one of the hardest chapters of her life. After more than a decade of clean audits, national recognition of excellence, and positive community impact, one change affected it all.  

A law was passed in 2024 and within months, everything changed.  The state replaced her nonprofit board with their own people, the students, educators, and staff were relocated from a state-of-the-art campus to an old, dilapidated facility, programs were cancelled and all during the middle of testing season.  When major events happen, it impacts not just them, but the families involved, the local businesses, communities, and possibly nonprofits going forward. 

While we may not share the exact experiences of Dr. Scott, we may just as well have started something that was wrongfully or unexpectantly taken away.  Her story and testimony reminded me that our knowledge, faith, and creativity are endless, but what happens when they are challenged?  How do we stand? How do we stay strong?  How do we move on?  

When you've created something, it's only natural to fight for it.  We have to keep our faith, our determination, and our courage to keep showing up with grace.  Those lessons and challenges are purposeful while painful. Victory is on the other side...it may not look like what we expected, but it can be even bigger than planned.
