Time Invested: We're Not Doing Too Much...We're Just Not Standing Still
Sometimes people will look at us and say, “You’re doing too much,” or “You need to slow down.” In this episode, I shared a moment where I heard that again and instead of dismissing it, I really thought about it.
I acknowledged it for what it was. Yes, I am moving fast right now. Yes, I have a lot on my plate. There are things I’ve committed to, goals I’m working toward, and responsibilities that require my attention. That part is real.
At the same time, I also recognized that the statement wasn’t completely wrong. We do need breaks. We do need time for ourselves. The difference is, for me, that time has to be intentional. It has to be planned. It doesn’t just happen on its own.
I started thinking more about how I’m managing everything. I talked through how I plan my weeks, how I break tasks down day by day, and how planning plays a big role in creating space. And even with that, I admitted there’s always room to improve. There’s always a better way to do something, a more efficient way to move, or something that may not even need to be done at all.
That’s where the reflection really came in.
Not everything we’re doing is necessary. Some things can be delegated, combined, or even done ahead of time to free up space later. When we take the time to look at it that way, we start to move with more clarity instead of just motion.
I also spoke about how we interpret what people say to us.
When someone tells us to slow down, it’s easy to take that the wrong way. It can feel like they don’t understand our goals or our drive. But in most cases, it’s coming from a place of support. It’s a reminder from someone who wants to see us do well, not burn out, and not lose ourselves in the process.
That shift in perspective matters.
It helps us stay grounded and not become defensive toward the people who are actually in our corner.
What matters is that we stay focused on what we’ve said is important to us.
If we say family matters, we have to make time for them. If we say rest matters, we have to plan for it. I even shared how I’m intentionally creating space for things like family time and moments to step away, because those things don’t just happen unless we decide they will.
And then there’s the bigger picture.
Being busy in this season isn’t a negative thing when it’s connected to purpose. There’s a difference between being distracted and being focused. The work we’re putting in now is building toward something. It’s for our future, our families, and what we’re called to do.
When we’re in motion, things begin to open up.
Opportunities come. Doors open. There’s alignment that happens when we’re actively doing the work. I even shared a real moment where something opened up for me, and it was a reminder that movement matters.
So this wasn’t a message to stop.
It was a reminder to stay the course, while also taking care of ourselves along the way.
To not feel guilty for being in a season of building.
To not take every comment as criticism.
And, to be mindful of how we’re moving, what we’re carrying and who we’re listening to.
At the end of the day, we’re not just trying to get things done… we’re building something meaningful.
If this is something that resonated, I shared more of this perspective and my personal reflections in the full episode. Take some time to listen, sit with it, and think about what this season looks like for you. Tune in on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, or wherever you stream.
