When Your Heart Says It's Time to Release
There’s a moment in every healing journey where you finally see the truth for what it is. We’ve named the hurt, we’ve traced the root, we’ve sat in the discomfort long enough to understand what it’s been trying to teach us. Then, we reach this crossroads; the place where feeling becomes choice.
The choice is release.
I know how heavy life can feel when carrying emotions that haven’t been spoken aloud. We try to tuck away the anger and rationalize the disappointment for so long that we learn to function with it. We go to work with it. We celebrate birthdays and holidays with it. We smile with it. But, deep down, that weight is shaping us in ways we rarely admit.
The simple truth is: suppression breeds depression.
I say that gently, as someone who’s lived it. Once you’ve identified the root, the next step isn’t to replay the story. It’s to begin the next chapter.
Release looks like exhaling.
Release looks like telling the truth out loud.
Release looks like saying, “I forgive them,” even when you don’t mean it yet.
Release looks like choosing not to carry someone else’s harm into your tomorrow.
I remember a time when hearing someone’s name would make my entire body tense. I could feel the anger rise, even years later. And one day, I had to ask myself, "why am I the one suffering while they’re out living freely"? So, I started whispering, “I forgive them.” I didn’t feel it for months. But each time I said it, the weight loosened. Little by little, I became lighter. That’s when I learned that forgiveness is less about the other person and more about clearing space for your own peace.
Releasing doesn’t erase the past. It won’t make everything “go back to normal”, but it will allow you to move forward without dragging the same emotional baggage into every room, relationship, and season.
Here’s my gentle nudge today: breathe.
You’ve done the hard work of identifying what hurt you. Now give yourself permission to let it go.
What are you still carrying that no longer belongs to you?
What would your life look like if you released it today?
