While We're at Work, What's Going On with Our Kids in School?
When I met Dr. Chakesha Scott at the Good Soil conference and learned that she founded a charter school in Louisiana, I had no idea where the rest of the story would turn. As founder of Impact Charter School in Baker, Louisiana, and CEO of EDUStrategies LLC, she built a 40,000-square-foot facility determined to make a positive impact in her community and the scholars she would soon lead. Her goal was to create a school that felt like Disneyland, but operate like Harvard.
From the school walls and floors to their uniforms, every color was intentional as every policy and routine. Dr. Scott reminded me that every detail can shift how a child feels about learning. So much so that our conversation brought back memories of my own childhood school.
While we talked about parental concerns like bathroom policies, cell phones, teacher turnover, and school safety, Dr. Scott also shared how much her dream cost her; both financially and emotionally.
What I love most about Dr. Scott is how her leadership extends beyond education. She’s building people, not just programs. She teaches that to lead well, you must understand people, accept feedback, and stay rooted in purpose. “Feedback is data,” she said. “If you refuse to hear it, you stop growing.”
What has your dream cost you?
If you’ve ever questioned how to lead with faith, advocate for your children, or find meaning in your work, this episode will speak straight to your heart.
